Eye-Catching Painted Profile of Gentleman with Blue Cravat
  • Here is a dandy of a painted silhouette of a gentleman. The anonymous artist used blue to draw the eye to the stunning profile that has a dark, black base color and beautiful bronzing to show detail. But, it is the blue cravat that really draws my eye! The man resides in the likely original 5" x 5 1/4” papier mâché frame with an unusual rectangular brass filet and a cluster of grapes holding the hanging loop. Sight size is 2 ¼" x 2 ¾". Both silhouette and frame are in excellent condition. Circa 1840.
