Antique Make-Do Pincushion from Molded Canary Yellow Glass
  • I’ve recently acquired a number of pieces from a long-time a private collection of make do and needlepoint pincushions. It is a fabulous collection that I’m pleased to offer these wonderful pieces. Ms. Hardy enjoyed these pieces for 30 years and you can see that she has an eye for the best!

This is a really eye-catching make do pincushion with a bright canary yellow early glass base topped by a pincushion made as if it is an upholstered stool. The pincushion is covered with a rose-patterned damask in red, trimmed with coordinated jacquard trim. The bottom of the pincushion (which may be a platform of wood) is covered with pale yellow silk. The trim is a bit frayed where the two ends are joined but everything else is in excellent condition and the beautiful yellow glass shows wonderful imperfections attesting to its age. I am not a glass person but I believe that this is flint glass and molded as opposed to pressed. But, I’d love if anyone who knows Early American Glass would contact me about these make do pincushions with the glass bases. 6 ½” tall x 5” square at the top and 3 ½” square base.
