Back to Silhouettes

<Previous Item       Next Item>

Well-executed fully painted silhouette of handsome young gentleman smoking a cigarette.  The man wheres a nicely fitted jacket with a patterned vest, cravat and standing collar.  Around his neck he wears a watch or miniature which he has tucked into the inside pocket of his jacket.  His facial features are well delineated with watercolor details over a dark grey watercolor body & jacket color.  He stands upon a small, penciled floor mat which bears the signature and date, "F.L. 1852".  In his proper right hand (also penciled in) he holds what appears to be a cigarette with bubbles of smoke floating above.  This silhouette is framed in a thin gilt frame measuring 6 1/4" x 9 3/8".  As you can see in the photos, there are two water stains, one in the upper right corner and the other along the lower right edge.  The stains show more prevalently in the photos than in real life, but they are noticeable.  Still, the apologies are small for such a delightful and unusual silhouette.
