A current favorite of mine, this stunning 18th century portrait miniature is of a young girl with soulful brown eyes cast to the observer's right.  Her peaked cap and low cut blue dress with a tight bodice and sash at the waist date this watercolor on ivory portrait to circa 1760.  The dress is edged with a small frill of lace and her cap is adorned with a blue ribbon that matches her dress.  This exquisite tiny portrait miniature was originally a bracelet.  The bracelet clasp from the bottom is long missing, but the clasp remains at the top and has been cleverly fitted with a short chain which enables this early miniature to be hung on the wall.  This tiny treasure measures a mere 2 3/4" x 2 1/8", not including the chain.  The back of the jewel casing is gilt metal and scratched, as you can see in the photo below.  This is a really early piece in very good condition!
